Facebook Sued Over Alleged Virus Outbreak

Cnet reports that Facebook is facing a civil lawsuit following a recent alleged virus outbreak on the network.

Theodore Karantsalis of Miami Springs, Florida is apparently suing Facebook, alleging that the site failed in its “legal duty to exercise at least reasonable care with regard to the safety of its network”. Karantsalis claims that his account was deleted and that he needed to spend time re-adding hundreds of friends.

If you’re as cynical as me you’re probably already wondering how many millions of dollars he’s trying to get out of Facebook. If so then, like me, you’d be wrong. The amount of the lawsuit is a mere $70.50

Even though the amount of this claim is small, if Karantsalis wins and sets a precedent the financial implications for Facebook and other social networks could be huge. The company is presumably aware of this and are planning to fight the case.
