Share The Woodstock Experience

It’s sometimes said that everyone in the US old enough to have been at Woodstock in 1969 claims to have been there. Well, whether you were there or not you can share the experience – as well as discuss live music of today. And, of course, buy stuff.
Woodstock.com is a new social network that’s aimed at live music fans. Although Woodstock features heavily – for example there’s “WikiStock, an interactive wiki-style encyclopedia of all things Woodstock” – the site also plans to provide extensive coverage of local and national concerts today. There will also be a “village green”: “a platform for developing initiatives about global warming, carbon emissions, and responsible energy use”.
Woodstock.com is a joint venture between Woodstock Ventures and Sony Music Entertainment which has been “created under the auspices of Michael Lang and Joel Rosenman, two of the founders of the Woodstock Festival”. It’s good to see a company such as Sony embracing social media, however the influence of the suits can definitely be felt. For example:
Woodstock.com is an all inclusive online community of fans and artists that celebrates the Woodstock Festivals and all Live Music Events from all generations, all genres and all levels of artists from anywhere around our beautiful green planet
That sounds to me like a corporate “mission statement” brainstormed in a three hour roadmap meeting.
